Ở quê lâu quá, con người ta thường hay lãng quên những vẻ đẹp ở gần xung quanh mình. Ở thành phố lâu quá, rồi cũng chẳng biết chỗ nào đi chơi được dịp cuối tuần hay buổi tối. Tại bởi, ở lâu quá, người ta hay bỏ qua những gì thân thuộc, vì luôn yên tâm là nó vẫn luôn còn đó.

Có đợt theo cha về quê, nghe cha nói một câu mà khiến mình nhớ mãi: “Quê mình cũng đẹp lắm, quan trọng là có chịu nhìn hay không.” À, thiệt ra là nhớ vế đầu thôi, còn vế sau mình bịa á, theo trí nhớ và logic lúc đó mình hiểu là vậy. Nhưng mà đúng thiệt. Quê mình đẹp lắm. Bến Tre mát ngát hương dừa. Xung quanh dừa ngập tràn, từ đầu đường tới cuối xóm, ở đâu cũng là dừa.
Mấy đợt cuối tuần tranh thủ về quê chơi, chạy xe lên cầu Rạch Miễu, nhìn xuống bên dưới dừa rợp cả khoảng rộng, mình biết mình đã về đến nhà.
Sống ở quê 18 năm trước khi lên Sài Gòn nhập học và rồi lập nghiệp ở xứ phồn hoa, vậy mà khi có bạn bè hỏi quê mày có gì ăn chơi, mình cũng không rõ. Vì mỗi ngày đi học về, mình đều ăn cơm nhà mẹ nấu, rồi cuối tuần theo cha mẹ về nội về ngoại hái dừa, hái bưởi. Nhà mình ở phố, và có thêm miếng vườn nhỏ ở quê đủ để trồng vài ba cây dừa, cây bưởi, và cả mớ rau mớ ớt tự mọc. Cứ mỗi lần về hái là được cả rổ rau đủ nấu hai ba nồi canh ngon.
Có đợt mình dắt bạn ở thành phố về chơi. Dẫn mọi người vô vườn bưởi, ai cũng khoái chí. Vừa được ăn bưởi da xanh ngon nhức nách, vừa được uống nước dừa ngọt lịm vừa giựt xuống từ trên cây. Ta nói nó ngọt lắm, mà ngọt tự nhiên chứ không thêm gì khác. Nếu không phải tận mắt nhìn thấy cha mình giựt nó xuống từ trên cây rồi chặt ra uống liền, chắc nhiều bạn xứ khác sẽ hoài nghi không biết dừa này có tiêm chất gì vô trong không. Nhưng chỉ ai biết uống nước dừa Bến Tre chính gốc, thì mới biết cái vị ngọt trời phú này không lẫn vào đâu được. Cũng như mình, quen uống dừa ăn bưởi ở nhà rồi, đi chỗ khác thử một lần rồi thôi sau này không thử nữa, vì không đâu bằng ở nhà, vì mình muốn giữ nguyên cái vị dừa quê nhà trong tiềm thức, luôn ngọt ngon tươi mát.
Bến Tre không chỉ có dừa hay bưởi, ở đây còn có rất nhiều loại trái cây nhiệt đới dễ đem lại cảm giác thèm thuồng nhung nhớ, nào là sầu riêng, măng cụt, xoài cát, mận, ổi, nhãn, quýt… và cả những chuyến ghe ngược xuôi trên dòng phù sa hiền hòa miền sông nước.
Sáng sớm đi chợ trên sông. Trưa tấp ghe vào vườn trái cây và làng nghề, nghe đờn ca tài tử, uống nước mật ong, ăn trái cây, hay miếng kẹo dừa được làm thủ công… Chiều len qua mấy con rạch rợp bóng dừa nước đi ra sông cái, ngắm nhìn hoàng hôn thơ mộng trên một khoảng sông rộng, uống trái dừa tươi mái rượi và thẩn thơ thả hồn theo mây gió. Tối xuống đi săn đom đóm, nhìn ngắm những ánh sáng thiên nhiên cứ chớp tắt lập lòe đầy thơ mộng.
Bến Tre bình yên vậy đó, mọi thứ luôn diễn ra nhẹ nhàng và từ tốn, như dòng nước lững lỡ trôi không hồi kết.

But it’s true. My hometown is beautiful. Ben Tre is cool and fragrant with coconut. Surrounded by coconuts, from the beginning of the road to the end of the hamlet, there are coconuts everywhere.
Everytime driving to Rach Mieu bridge, looking down at the wide area of coconut trees, I knew I had come home.
Lived in the countryside for 18 years before going to Saigon to study and then set up a career in a prosperous country, but when my friends asked me what my hometown had to do, I didn’t know. Because every day when I come home from school, I have meals at home with my parents, then on weekends I follow my parents to my grandmother’s house to pick coconuts and pick grapefruits. My house is on the city town, and there is a small garden in the countryside that is enough to grow a few coconut trees, grapefruit trees, and a bunch of self-grown chili vegetables. Every time I come back to pick, I get a whole basket of vegetables, enough to cook two or three pots of delicious soup.
There was a time when I took my friends in the city to play. Take everyone to the grapefruit garden, everyone is delighted. Just eat delicious green skin grapefruit, just drink sweet coconut water pulled down from the tree. It’s really sweet, but naturally sweet without adding anything else. If they hadn’t seen my father pull it down from the tree and then cut it down and drink it, many other friends would have doubted whether this coconut had injected any substance into it. But only those who know how to drink the original Ben Tre coconut water will know this endowed sweetness is unmistakable. Just like me, I’m used to drinking coconut and eating grapefruit at home, go somewhere else to try it once and then don’t want to try again, because there’s no place like at home, because I want to keep the taste of home coconut in my subconscious, always sweet, delicious and fresh.
Ben Tre not only has coconuts or grapefruits, there are also many tropical fruits that are easy to bring about cravings, such as durian, mangosteen, sand mango, plum, guava, longan, mandarin… and even boat trips up and down on the gentle alluvial river.
Early morning go to market on the river. At noon, the boat goes to the fruit garden and craft village, listens to the folk music, drinks honey, eats fruit, or a piece of handmade coconut candy… In the afternoon, weaves through the canals lined with nipa palm trees to the main river. , watching the romantic sunset on a wide river, drinking fresh coconut water and lounging in the clouds. At night, go hunting for fireflies, watching the natural lights flickering and flickering poetically.
Ben Tre is so peaceful, everything always happens gently and slowly, like a river flowing without end.
